Why PHAST Exists

A new standard for hospitality safety.

Premier Hospitality and Safety Training (PHAST) was created to address a problem that has existed within the hospitality industry for decades.

Hotels invest millions of dollars developing exceptional guest experiences, sophisticated security systems, life safety infrastructure, and emergency procedures. Yet the professionals responsible for protecting those environments are often trained through generic security programs that were never designed for hospitality.

PHAST was built to establish a professional certification standard developed exclusively for hotels.

The Investment

Guest experiences.

The Investment

Security systems.

The Investment

Life safety infrastructure.

The people protecting it deserve a standard of their own.

Why We Built It

Hospitality demands its own standard.

Hotel security professionals do far more than protect a building. They represent the property, support the guest experience, recognize developing concerns, protect life and property, respond to emergencies, and operate alongside management, law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency responders.

No single discipline adequately prepares them for those responsibilities. PHAST brings those disciplines together within one integrated certification program specifically designed for hospitality operations.

The PHAST Standard

Four pillars. One professional standard.

The PHAST curriculum establishes a progressive certification pathway built around four integrated pillars.

  • I

    Guest Experience and Service Standards

Preparing security professionals to operate as guest-facing representatives of the property.

  • II

Safety, Risk Reduction, and Operational Awareness

Building the awareness and decision-making necessary to recognize hazards, reduce risk, and support safer hotel operations through FEMA-aligned emergency management principles.

  • III

    Security Operations and Incident Management

Developing the operational knowledge required to manage daily security responsibilities professionally and consistently.

  • IV

    Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Response

Preparing personnel to support the property’s Emergency Action Plan, Fire Safety and Evacuation Plan, and coordinated emergency response through instruction aligned with FDNY fire and life safety practices.

Together, these pillars establish one consistent professional standard across the hospitality environment.

Built by Experience

Developed by hospitality. Delivered by experts.

PHAST was prepared and curated under the direction of ownership with more than twenty-five years of executive leadership in hospitality security. Instruction is delivered by professionals whose backgrounds include:

01

Retired members of the New York City Police Department

02

Experienced New York City Fire and Life Safety leadership

03

Authorized FEMA instruction

04

Corrections leadership

05

Executive hospitality security management

Every discipline is taught by professionals who have managed the responsibilities they now teach.

A Proprietary Certification Program

The curriculum is protected.

PHAST represents years of curriculum development, operational research, industry collaboration, and professional experience. For that reason, the curriculum, instructional materials, lesson plans, assessment instruments, instructor guides, certification methodology, and supporting intellectual property are confidential and are not publicly distributed.

The website intentionally provides only a high-level overview of the program.

Professional Review

Qualified discussions. Controlled access.

PHAST welcomes discussions with qualified hotel ownership groups, management companies, and hospitality operators seeking to strengthen their security and safety programs.

Initial consultations focus on understanding the property’s operational environment, objectives, and training needs.

Because of the proprietary nature of the PHAST certification program, detailed curriculum materials and instructional content are reviewed only when appropriate and only under conditions determined by PHAST. Where necessary, access may be subject to a formal Confidentiality or Non-Disclosure Agreement.

Why It Matters

The standard behind the people protecting the property.

Every hotel develops standards for guest service, operations, and brand presentation. PHAST establishes the professional standard for the people entrusted with protecting those environments.

The objective is simple: to provide the hospitality industry with a certification program built specifically for the realities of hotel operations and delivered by professionals whose operational experience is matched by few in the industry.
