The PHAST Certification

Certification must be earned.

PHAST is an instructor-led, classroom-based certification program developed specifically for the hospitality industry.

Participants earn the designation of PHAST Certified Officer (PCO) by successfully completing the required classroom instruction and passing the mandatory certification assessment at the conclusion of each pillar. Certification recognizes demonstrated knowledge of the professional standards expected within today’s hospitality environment.

The PCO Designation

A professional standard for hospitality security.

The PHAST Certified Officer designation signifies that the participant has successfully completed a structured curriculum developed specifically for hotel operations and has demonstrated an understanding of the principles taught throughout the program.

The certification reflects knowledge across four critical areas

  • I

    Guest Experience and Service Standards

  • II

Safety, Risk Reduction, and Operational Awareness

  • III

    Security Operations and Incident Management

  • IV

    Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Response

The Assessment Process

Knowledge must be demonstrated.

Each pillar concludes with a comprehensive written certification assessment covering the material presented during that section of the curriculum. Certification is awarded only to participants who successfully meet the established passing standard.

Attendance alone does not result in certification.

Four pillars. Twenty-four integrated modules.

The PHAST curriculum follows a progressive structure designed specifically for hospitality operations. Participants advance through four integrated pillars comprising twenty-four modules that build upon one another to establish a consistent professional standard across guest service, safety, security operations, and emergency preparedness.

The Four Pillars
i.

Designed for Hospitality

Built specifically for hotels.

Unlike traditional security training, PHAST was developed exclusively for hospitality environments. The curriculum combines hospitality service principles, operational security, risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and leadership concepts into a single certification program designed around the realities of hotel operations.

ii.

Property Integration

Supporting your existing standards.

PHAST does not replace a property’s existing policies, post orders, Emergency Action Plan, Fire Safety and Evacuation Plan, or operating procedures. Instead, the program strengthens the knowledge and professional consistency through which those established procedures are carried out.

Property-specific policies always remain controlling.

The Outcome

One standard. One professional expectation.

A property staffed by PHAST Certified Officers benefits from personnel who have completed a consistent, hospitality-specific certification program and demonstrated an understanding of the professional standards expected within today’s hotel environment.

The result is greater consistency in guest interaction, operational awareness, safety practices, security operations, and emergency preparedness.

Looking Ahead PHAST has been developed to support future third-party accreditation and continuing education recognition as the program continues to expand. Updates regarding accreditation initiatives will be announced as they become available.
